How Much Is College?

In today's article, we will be talking about the fees you should be expecting to pay for your overall college programme.

1. Admission fees

Admission fees usually consist of two costs - registration fees and admission deposit. Registration fees typically range from RM 350 - RM 5000, whereas the admission deposit (refundable) is around RM 500.

2. Tuition fees

Depending on your course, local public universities and government-subsidised programmes have much lower fees compared to their private colleges counterparts. The fees can range from RM 350/semester to RM 31,140/semester for more prestigious colleges.

3. Activity fees

Also known as student activity fees and/or resources fees, these fees can range from RM 400/semester - RM 2500/semester, depending on the activities or clubs joined.

4. Boarding fees

If you opt for a boarding college, the fees usually include meals, laundry service, electricity and utility fees, and boarding costs during the holidays. Most boarding colleges are on the higher end of the fee spectrum, and fees can cost up to RM 50,000/academic year. However, this is not to be confused with hostel fees, where you opt to live on/nearby campus. Hostel fees only require you to pay for rent and utility bills, ranging from RM 400 - RM 1000 per month.

5. Examination fees

Also depending on the course you take, the fees can range wildly. For instance, STPM students are required to pay a basic fee of RM 120 for their exams and RM 90 for each subject. Whereas for A-Level students, they are required to pay around RM 250 for registration fees and RM 550 - RM 600 for each subject.
